I studied Computer Science from 1989 to 1993 and Mathematics from 1989 to 1995, both at the Free University Amsterdam. From 1993 I started working on my Ph.D. thesis, under supervision of Prof. dr. Jan Treur. I received my doctoral degree in 1999. The last year I was an associate professor. From 1999 to 2002 I worked at McKinsey & Company as consultant and engagement manager. Then I joined KLM Royal Dutch Airlines as Director Strategy and Mergers and Acquisitions. Together with department head Dave del Canho I was responsible for strategy and for managing the merger process between KLM and Air France assessment before, negotiations with Air France and British Airways, and postmerger implementation
